Great Lakes Pumps sells Process Systems VTPs for Water Test Booths

As a diverse group of pump manufacturing companies, we have the ability to cover virtually any pump process required across a manufacturing plant. Such is the case with two FCA Chrysler plants under construction in Michigan. Our division Gusher supplied the self-primers for the paint systems at both plants back in April, and now 20 Vertical Turbine Pumps from our Process Systems, Inc. division have been installed on the water test booths at both the Jeep plant at Mack Ave in Detroit, Michigan and the Warren, Michigan truck plant.

The construction activity is indicative of the resurgence in US automotive manufacturing. The Jeep Cherokee plant is the first new automotive plant in the Motor City since 1991. The Warren Truck plant has been building trucks since 1938 and is nearing the end of a $1 billion renovation project to retool and modernize the facilities.

Twelve pumps were installed at the Mack Ave. plant, and the remaining 8 went in at the Warren plant. All the pumps were installed on the plants’ water test systems. These booths simulate harsh weather conditions and test the effects of water on the cars and trucks the plants build.

All Process System Vertical Turbine Pumps are designed and manufactured to customer’s spec to accommodate a wide range of flows and pressures. The pumps in this particular job range from 80 GPM at 45′ TDH to 440 GPM at 165’ TDH, simulating conditions from a light mist to torrential rain. A big benefit to the VTP is its seal-less design, which eliminates the potential for leaking seals-one of the most common service items on most pumps.

As with most of our Michigan automotive jobs, the pumps were sold through our Great Lakes Pump division. Great Lakes in located in the heart of the Michigan automotive corridor and represents our Gusher, Process Systems/Deming Vertical Turbine Pumps, BSM Pump, RAE Pumps, and FulFlo Valve ranges, as well as several other pump brands and critical process equipment manufacturers. Great Lakes has decades of expertise in automotive manufacturing, paint systems, and other industrial process applications.
